Build a site from Claude Code

Connect Claude Code to Starjay, have it edit a site, review and save its work in the editor, and publish after you confirm.

In this tutorial you connect Claude Code on your computer to your Starjay account, ask it to change a site, watch the changes arrive in the editor, save them, and publish.

Claude Code works on your site through a Starjay connection. Its edits show up in the editor as versions, the same way the editor's own AI works, and you still decide what to keep.

    Before you start

    • Install Claude Code and sign in to it.
    • Have a Starjay site to work on, open in the editor in your browser.

    Connect Claude Code (once)

You connect once, and the connection works for every site and workspace you can access.

    1. 01

      Open the setup dialog

In the editor, click the AI button at the top right. Under the AI panel's header, click Use Claude or Codex. A dialog opens: Work on this site with an AI agent.

    2. 02

      Choose Claude Code

Under 1 Connect Starjay, set AI client to Claude Code (terminal).

    3. 03

      Add the server

Open a new terminal window and run the command shown in the dialog. Click the copy button to copy it:

claude mcp add --transport http -s user starjay https://app.starjay.com/mcp
    4. 04

      Enable the connection

Type claude to open Claude Code, then type /mcp and press Enter. Select starjay and press Enter. If its status is disabled, choose Enable.

    5. 05

      Authenticate

In the same menu, choose Authenticate. Your browser opens; sign in to Starjay and approve access. If the menu already says it's authenticated, you're ready.

    Start on your site

    1. 01

      Copy the starter prompt

Back in the dialog, click I’ve connected. Step 2 Start on this site shows a prompt like this:

Use the starjay MCP connection to work on my Starjay site named “Rise & Crumb” (site ID: …).

Click the copy button next to it. The site ID tells Claude exactly which site to use, even if you have several with similar names.

    2. 02

      Paste it with your request

In Claude Code, paste the starter prompt, then describe what you want:

Add a "Wholesale" page for cafés and restaurants that want to stock our bread.
Include a short pitch, a table of products with minimum order quantities, and a
call to action linking to the Contact page. Add it to the header navigation.
      Match the existing style.

    3. 03

      Let Claude work

Claude reads your site, then makes its changes. Approve its tool requests in Claude Code if it asks.

Watch the work arrive in the editor

While Claude is editing, the editor shows Claude is editing — locked over the canvas, with a count of files changed so far. You can't edit by hand during this time, so your edits and Claude's don't collide.

If you need to stop Claude, click Take back control, then confirm with Cut off Claude?. Anything Claude already changed is kept as a version you can review.

When Claude finishes a batch of edits, the canvas updates and a new version appears in the AI Session bar at the bottom of the AI panel.

    Review and save

    1. 01

      Look at the changes

Open the new Wholesale page from the Pages panel. Use ‹ and › in the AI Session bar to compare versions, including Original.

    2. 02

      Ask for fixes

Keep talking to Claude in your terminal. Each further batch of edits becomes another version.

    3. 03

      Save

When you're happy, click Save in the editor. Or click Reject to put the site back the way it was before Claude started.

    Publish

    1. 01

      Ask Claude to publish

In Claude Code, type Publish the site.

    2. 02

      Confirm

Claude must ask for your permission first, naming the site. Reply yes to confirm. Claude won't publish without your reply in the same conversation.

    3. 03

      Check it's live

Claude reports when publishing has finished. In the editor, the Publish panel shows Live and the address.

    Credits

Claude's own work runs on your Claude plan, not on Starjay credits. Some things Starjay does for Claude still use Starjay credits, such as looking at a reference website or taking screenshots of your site.

    If something goes wrong

    Problem What to do
starjay doesn't appear in /mcp. Run the claude mcp add command again in a new terminal, then restart Claude Code.
Claude says it isn't signed in. Type /mcp, select starjay and choose Authenticate.
Claude works on the wrong site. Paste the starter prompt from the dialog again; it includes the site ID.
Claude says the site is busy or locked. Someone, or the editor's own AI, is working on the site. Wait until it finishes, or check the AI panel.
Claude's publish is refused. Save or Reject the session in the editor first.
The editor still shows the old page. Click Reload Site in the top bar.
