File uploads
Shows how to let visitors attach images or PDFs to a form, with the limits and where the files end up.
A file field lets visitors attach photos or documents, such as pictures of a problem or a certificate.
Add a file field
Ask the AI, for example "Add a field where customers can upload up to 5 photos of the damage." Or, in the Forms panel, edit Fields, click + Add field, set its type to file and open the field's options:
- File kind: Images or PDF documents.
- Max files: how many files a visitor can attach to this field.
What visitors can upload
| Images | JPEG, PNG, WebP, GIF |
| Documents | |
| Files per field | 1 by default, up to 10 |
| Files per submission | Up to 20 across all fields |
| Size per file | Up to 10 MB by default. Ask the AI to raise it, up to 25 MB. |
Where the files go
File fields need submissions to be saved, which they are unless you've asked the AI to turn that off.
- In the Forms panel: open the submission. Each file shows its name, size and type, with Download. Images show a small preview.
- In notification emails: files aren't attached. The email lists each file's name and size, with a link "View files in Starjay". Opening it needs you to sign in.
- In webhooks: the file's name, size and type are sent, not the file itself.
- In a CSV export: the file names are listed.
How long files are kept
Files stay with their submission. Deleting the submission deletes its files. Deleting the site deletes them all.
