    Collect inquiries with a form

Add a contact form, get an email each time someone submits it, test it, then read and export the submissions.

In this tutorial you add an inquiry form to your Contact page, verify the email address that should receive notifications, test the form on your live site, and export the results.

    Before you start

    • You need a site with a Contact page, such as the one from Build a business site.
    • You need access to the inbox of the email address that should get notifications. Starjay sends a 6-digit code to it.

Ask the AI for a form

    1. 01

      Open the Contact page

Open the Contact page on the canvas and click the AI button at the top right.

    2. 02

      Ask for the form

      Send:

Add an inquiry form to this page with these fields: name (required), email
(required), phone (optional), "What can we help with?" as a dropdown with Custom
cake, Wholesale and Other, and a message (required). Send each submission to
orders@example.com. The button should say "Send inquiry".

Use your own email address instead of orders@example.com.

    3. 03

      Read the AI's reply

The AI builds the form and places it on the page. Because the email address isn't verified yet, the AI tells you to verify it in the Forms panel.

    4. 04

      Save the session

Click Save in the AI Session bar.

    Verify your notification email

Starjay only sends notifications to addresses you've verified for this site. Until then, submissions are still saved, but no email is sent.

    1. 01

      Open the form

Click Forms in the left icon rail. Click the Definitions tab, then click your form.

    2. 02

      Find the email destination

Under Destinations, the email row shows your address and the status unverified.

    3. 03

      Send the code

Click verify on that row. The panel shows Code sent — check your inbox and a box labeled 6-digit code.

    4. 04

      Enter the code

Copy the 6-digit code from the email, type it into the box and click Confirm. The status changes to verified.

    Check the form's settings

On the Definitions tab you can also change the form yourself. Each section (Fields, Destinations, Settings) has an Edit button; make your changes and click Save.

    • Fields — labels, types, required, placeholder and help text.
    • Destinations — add another address with + email, or send submissions to another service with + webhook.
    • Settings — Submit label, Success message (shown after a visitor submits), Error message, and Spam protection, which is on by default.

    Publish and test

    1. 01

      Publish the site

Form changes reach your live site when you publish. Click Publish at the top right, then Publish or Republish in the panel, and wait for Live.

    2. 02

      Submit a test inquiry

Open your live site's Contact page and fill in the form as a visitor would. After you submit, you see the success message.

    3. 03

      Check your email

The verified address receives a notification with the submission.

    Read and export submissions

    1. 01

      Open the Submissions tab

In the Forms panel, click the Submissions tab. The table shows each form with Total, Unread and Latest.

    2. 02

      Read a submission

Click your form, then a submission. Unread submissions have a dot. Opening a submission shows every field. Use Mark as read or Mark as unread to keep track.

    3. 03

      Export to a spreadsheet

Go back to the list of submissions for the form and click Export CSV. A CSV file downloads that you can open in any spreadsheet app.

    If something goes wrong

    Problem What to do
Submissions arrive in the Submissions tab but no email comes. Check the destination's status is verified. If it says pending, click enter code and finish verifying. Check your spam folder.
Code expired. Request a new one. Click resend and use the new code within 15 minutes.
Invalid code Check you typed the latest code. Each new code replaces the one before it.
Too many attempts. Request a new code. Click resend and enter the new code.
Maximum of 5 verified email addresses per site A site can have up to 5 verified addresses. Click revoke next to one you no longer need.
The form on your live site doesn't have your latest changes. Publish the site again.
The form looks unstyled or out of place. Ask the AI to restyle it, for example Make the form match the rest of the Contact page.
