    Domain troubleshooting

What each custom domain status and error means, and what to do about it.

    Domain statuses

The status appears next to your domain under Connected Domains.

Status What it means What to do
Pending DNS Starjay hasn't found your records yet, or they don't point at your site. Check each record against the DNS card, then click Check DNS now. DNS changes can take a few minutes to appear, sometimes longer.
Verifying... Your DNS is pointing at Starjay and the domain is being verified. Wait a few minutes and click Check DNS now.
Pending SSL The domain is verified and Starjay is setting up its HTTPS certificate. Wait a few minutes and click Check DNS now.
No status, and a round button you can select Everything is set up. Select it to make it your live address. See Choose which address serves your site.
Error There's a problem with the domain's HTTPS certificate. Check that your records are still in place. If it doesn't clear, contact support.

    Common problems

    Problem Likely cause Fix
The TXT record never gets a check mark. The record's name or value is wrong. Use the name exactly as the card shows it: _starjay for a domain, or _starjay. plus your subdomain's first part for a subdomain (for example _starjay.shop). Some hosts want the full name instead: add your domain to the end, for example _starjay.shop.yourbusiness.com. The value must be the full starjay-verify=… text from your card, with nothing else.
The CNAME record never gets a check mark. An old record for www is still there, or the value is mistyped. Remove any other www record (CNAME or A) and make sure the value is exactly sites.starjay.app.
Using Cloudflare, the domain stays pending. The record is proxied (orange cloud). Set Proxy status to DNS only (grey cloud).
www.yourbusiness.com works but yourbusiness.com doesn't. The bare domain isn't set up. Add the ALIAS/ANAME/CNAME row from the card, or set up forwarding to https://www.yourbusiness.com at your provider.
My provider asks for an A record. Starjay doesn't use A records. Use your provider's ALIAS or forwarding feature, as the card shows. If it has neither, forward at your registrar or move DNS to a host with ALIAS support.
I can't select the domain. Not every record is verified yet. Finish setting up DNS until the yellow dot is gone.
The domain menu and Check DNS now are disabled. An AI session is open. Save or Reject the session first.
My live site shows Site Offline. The site is unpublished, or you disconnected its live domain. Click Publish.

    Error messages

    Message What to do
Invalid domain format Enter just the domain, such as yourbusiness.com, without https://, slashes or spaces.
We couldn't look up this domain's DNS settings… Starjay couldn't tell where your domain's DNS is managed, so it can't tell whether you entered a subdomain. Check the spelling. If you just bought the domain, wait a few minutes and try again.
Domain already in use: … The domain is connected to another Starjay site. If it's one of your sites, disconnect it there first. Otherwise, contact support.
Failed to connect domain or Network error Try again. If it keeps happening, contact support.
