    How page views are counted

    Explains how Starjay counts page views, what counts toward your allowance, and why the numbers can differ from other tools.

    Counted on the server

    Starjay counts each page view when your site sends the page, not with a script in the visitor's browser. That means:

    • No cookies and no tracking script. Starjay's counting doesn't add a script to your pages or set cookies on your visitors.
    • Ad blockers don't hide visitors. People who block trackers or turn off JavaScript are still counted.
    • Your numbers may be higher than Google Analytics. Browser-based tools miss visitors who block them, and they usually leave out bots. Starjay counts both.

    What counts as a page view

    Counted Not counted
    Every page sent to a visitor, including CMS pages Images, stylesheets, fonts and other static files
    Visits to addresses that don't exist (shown as 404 pages) Form submissions
    Visits by bots and crawlers Redirects you set up in the Redirects panel
    Pages a browser loads ahead of time (Prefetched) Your own work in the editor
    Other addresses your site's code builds on request, such as a generated data file

    Every view counts as one

    Every counted view counts as one full view toward your allowance, whoever or whatever made it. That includes:

    • people visiting your site, including you and your team when you visit the published site;
    • bots and search engine crawlers;
    • pages a browser loads ahead of time.

    Starjay doesn't tell bots apart from people today, so bot visits appear under Direct on the Analytics page.

    Your plan includes a monthly number of page views, shared across all the sites in your workspace. During the beta, page views above your allowance aren't billed or limited. See Page view allowance.
