Troubleshooting your own AI
Fixes for the problems people most often hit when working on a Starjay site from their own AI app.
| Problem | What's happening | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Your AI app says it's signed out, asks you to authenticate, or Starjay's tools disappear | The sign-in expired or was never completed. | Authenticate again: in Claude Code, /mcp → starjay → Authenticate; in Codex, Settings → Plugins → MCPs → Authenticate; in Claude, reconnect the connector under Settings → Connectors. |
starjay doesn't appear in Claude Code |
The server was added in another way, or Claude Code wasn't restarted. | Run the claude mcp add … command from Connect Claude Code in a new terminal, then start claude again. |
| "The editor for this site is not running" | Your AI can only work on a site while its editor is running. | Open the site in the editor and wait for it to load, then ask your AI to retry. |
| Your AI is working on the wrong site | It picked a site by name and chose another one. | Give it the starter prompt with the site ID from Use Claude or Codex. Ask it to call list_sites and confirm. |
| "You do not have access to this site" | The account you signed in with isn't a member of that site's workspace. | Sign in with the right account, or ask the workspace owner to invite you. |
| "This project is archived" | The site is archived. | Restore it from the dashboard (needs Pro). |
session_locked when your AI starts |
Someone else is working on the site: you in the editor, the built-in AI, or another agent. | Let the other work finish, then ask your AI to try again. |
not_lock_holder or lock_lost on a change |
Your AI's turn wasn't open, lapsed after about five minutes without calls, or you clicked Take back control. | Ask your AI to call start_turn and continue. |
| The editor still says Claude is editing — locked | Your AI didn't end its turn. | Ask your AI to call end_turn, or click Take back control. The lock also clears on its own after about five minutes without calls. |
| Save and Reject are grayed out | Your AI's turn is still open. | Wait for it to finish, or click Take back control. |
| Publish refused: "Accept or reject current AI changes before publishing." | The AI session hasn't been reviewed. | Click Save or Reject in the editor, then ask your AI to publish again. |
Publish refused with confirmation_required |
Your AI tried to publish without your approval. | That's the safeguard working. Say yes in the conversation if you want to publish. |
| "The site is publishing" | A publish is running and editing is paused. | Wait for it to finish. |
insufficient_credits |
Your workspace is out of credits for a Starjay-side action. | See Running out of credits. |
| ChatGPT can't connect | ChatGPT isn't supported. | Use Claude, Claude Code, Codex or another app that supports remote MCP with sign-in. |
| Your AI says it can't manage your domain | Custom domains can't be managed over MCP. | Connect domains in the editor. See Connect a custom domain. |
