Place and replace images
Shows how to swap an image on the canvas and how to pick images in other parts of the editor.
Replace an image on the canvas
- 01
Open the image box
Double-click the image on the canvas. Or select it and click the image icon (Change image) on its label. A small box opens with the current image and its alt text.
- 02
Open the chooser
Click the thumbnail. Under Replace with... you see your library.
- 03
Pick the new image
Search with Search images… and click an image. Or click Upload new to add one from your computer and use it straight away.
The new image is saved as soon as you pick it. The old image stays in your library, so you can switch back the same way. The placement's alt text doesn't change. Update it if the new image needs a different description. See Alt text and descriptions.
If the thumbnail isn't clickable, this image can't be replaced from the canvas. Ask the AI instead.
The "unmanaged" badge
An unmanaged badge means the image on the page isn't from your library. Replace it with a library image to fix it. Every image on your site should come from the library, so it's sized and served properly.
Pick an image elsewhere in the editor
Other places use a larger picker titled Pick an image:
- An Image field in a collection item (Choose an image...).
- The Image button in a Markdown field's toolbar.
- Images in your site's SEO settings, such as the social image.
In it you can search, filter by tag, click Upload, use From URL to import an image from a web address, or drop an image onto the grid.
Ask the AI
You can also describe what you want, for example "Use the mountain photo as the hero background." The AI picks from your library, or imports or generates an image if you ask.
Add a new image to a page
To add an image where there isn't one, use the Elements panel, or ask the AI. See Add elements and sections.
