Quickstart: build and publish your first site
Create a site, have the AI build it, save the result, edit some text, and publish it to your free starjay.app address.
This tutorial takes about 15 minutes. You need a Starjay account; the Free plan is enough. Building with the AI uses some of your monthly AI credits.
- 01
Create a site
- In the dashboard, open Sites in the left menu and select New site.
- Under Start from, choose Blank.
- In Name, type a name for your site, such as
Corner Bakery. - Select Create site.
The new site appears in your list of sites. Select its card to open it in the editor.
The first time you open a site, you see Starting your site while it loads. If you see Setting up a fresh workspace, wait; this usually takes about a minute.
- 02
Describe your site
Because the page is empty, the canvas shows a Describe your site box.
Describe the site in a few sentences. Say what it's for, who it's for, and how it should feel. For example:
A warm, modern website for a neighborhood bakery that takes custom cake orders. Include a hero with an order button, a section about our three bestsellers, opening hours, and a contact section.Optional: choose an AI model from the menu at the bottom left of the box. GPT-6 Luna is the default.
Optional: attach up to three screenshots of designs you like with the image button, or paste them into the box.
Select the arrow button (Generate page), or press Cmd+Enter (Mac) or Ctrl+Enter (Windows).
- 03
Watch the AI work
The AI panel opens on the right. It shows what the AI is doing, step by step, and the canvas updates as the page takes shape.
To stop the AI, select the square stop button where the send button was.
- 04
Ask for changes
When the AI finishes, type a follow-up request in the box at the bottom of the AI panel, for example
Make the hero image larger and use a darker brown for the buttons. Then send it with the arrow button or Cmd+Enter / Ctrl+Enter. Each request creates a new version. In the session bar at the bottom of the AI panel, use the ‹ and › arrows to step between Original (your site before this session) and each version. The canvas shows whichever version you pick.
- 05
Save the session
When you're happy with the result, select Save in the session bar. This keeps all the changes from the session.
If you don't like the result, select Reject instead, then Discard & reject. This restores the site to how it was before the session.
Save and Reject are hidden while the AI is working.
- 06
Edit text on the canvas
- Double-click any text on the page.
- Type your change.
- Press Enter or click somewhere else to save it. Press Esc to cancel.
- 07
Publish your site
- Select Publish in the top bar. The Publish panel opens.
- Select Publish in the panel.
The panel shows the progress, for example Queued... and Building site.... When it's done, the status changes to Live and the address of your site appears next to it.
If the panel says Publishing locked — accept or reject AI changes first., go back to the AI panel and select Save or Reject, then try again.
- 08
Visit your site
Select the address in the Publish panel to open your live site in a new tab. It looks like
corner-bakery.starjay.app. Starjay makes the address from your site's name, and you can change it under Connected Domains in the Publish panel.Changes you make from now on stay in the editor until you publish again. The button then reads Republish.
