Image sizes and formats
Lists the fixed sizes Starjay makes of every image and how it picks a format for each visitor.
You upload one image. Starjay serves it in several sizes and in the best format each visitor's browser supports. You don't need to resize or convert anything.
Sizes
| Size | Dimensions | Used for |
|---|---|---|
thumbnail |
200 × 200, cropped to a square | Small previews. |
w640 |
640 wide | Phones. |
w1024 |
1024 wide | Tablets and small screens. |
w1920 |
1920 wide | Large screens. |
public |
Fits within 1366 × 768 | The default size. |
og |
1200 × 630, cropped | Social previews when a page is shared. |
Images are never enlarged. An 800-pixel-wide photo served at w1920 stays 800 pixels wide. The cropped sizes (thumbnail and og) fill their exact shape, so edges may be trimmed.
When the AI places an image, it lists the sizes so each browser loads the smallest one that looks sharp. It also sets the image's width and height so the page doesn't jump while images load.
Formats
For each request, Starjay picks a format the visitor's browser supports:
- AVIF for sizes up to 1200 pixels, when the browser supports it.
- WebP otherwise, when the browser supports it.
- The original format for browsers that support neither.
SVG images are served exactly as uploaded, at every size.
Where images are served from
Images are served from your own site's address, so they load from the same place as your pages. You can see an image's address under URL in its details once your site is published.
