Create, move and rename pages
How to create pages and subpages, change a page's address, and move or reorder pages by dragging.
Create a page
- 01
Open the Pages panel
Click Pages in the left icon rail.
- 02
Start a new page
Click the + button (Add page) and choose New Page. To create a page under an existing one, right-click that page and choose Add subpage instead.
- 03
Enter its address
In the New page dialog, type the last part of the address, for example
about. The part before it is filled in for you. - 04
Create it
Click Create or press
Enter. The new page opens on the canvas.
A new page starts with your site's header and footer and nothing in between. Add sections from the Elements panel, or ask the AI to build the page.
New pages are ready to publish: they go live the next time you publish, unless you mark them as drafts. See Draft, ready and live pages.
If the CMS is in use, New CMS Page lets you create a page that shows the items of a collection. See Create a collection.
Address rules
- Addresses use lowercase letters, numbers and hyphens. As you type, capitals become lowercase, and spaces and other characters become hyphens.
- If the address is already taken, or the name is reserved, a number is added to it (for example
about-1). - Reserved names:
indexanywhere;404,500,previewandapias the first part of an address. - Pages can nest up to 5 levels deep.
Change a page's address
- Right-click the page and choose Change location.
- Type the new last part of the address and click Change.
To move a page under a different parent, drag it (see below).
Move or reorder pages by dragging
Drag a page in the tree. Where you drop it decides what happens:
- Drop on the top or bottom edge of another page to place it before or after that page, at the same level. A line shows where it will land.
- Drop on the middle of another page to nest it under that page. The target page is highlighted.
Dragging within the same parent only changes the order of the list. Dragging to a different parent changes the page's address. Subpages move with their parent.
What happens when a page's address changes
When you change a page's address, by Change location or by dragging it to a new parent:
- Links to the page from your other pages are updated to the new address.
- If the page is live, Starjay creates a redirect from the old address to the new one, so visitors and search engines still find it.
- If you're viewing the page, the canvas shows Moving page… and follows it to its new address.
A message confirms the move, for example Moved to /product/pricing · 3 files updated · redirect created. It has an Undo button that puts everything back. When a redirect was created, Remove redirect removes just the redirect and keeps the move. You can also undo with Cmd/Ctrl+Z.
See Redirects to manage redirects later.
What you can't move
- Home can't be moved, renamed or deleted.
- Your 404 page can't be moved, renamed or deleted.
- You can't nest a page under one of its own subpages, under a page that shows CMS items, or deeper than 5 levels.
- You can't move a page to an address another page already uses: A page with this route already exists.
- Reserved names are refused, for example "api" is reserved as the first route segment.
